And I know it seems off-topic, but it’s my summer’s favorite drink and yes, I can spin it!
One word that deliciously summarizes my biggest passion in life is ‘Genuss‘. It’s a german word, that sadly does not translate well into other languages. It’s pure meaning is that of pleasure. But not just in the sense of enjoyment. Genuss goes so much deeper. When pleasure is the regular chocolate cake. Genuss is your triple chocolate fudge cake with icing. It’s the indulgence in the moment, when all time and space is lost and you are fully absorbed with all of your senses. Like a Negroni. Like a bold roast espresso. Or delightfully sensual sex while the sun peeps through the half closed shutters.
We wish we could have it all the time, but we can only try. I strongly believe that life’s wonder is about finding that balance where you can enjoy the pleasures often enough without them ever becoming boring. The secret lies in diversity and grace. I’ve realized that there can be as much satisfaction in a hot summer’s day as in a cold, drizzling rain on a late autumn evening. Spare me the dry beaches of Spain, when I can have a white winter wonderland in the middle of nowhere. When you know how to indulge, how to savor the moment for what it is, it never gets boring.
This here, however, right now, are the warm summer days of lounge tunes, sunglasses and Negronis. Putting me right into a feeling of comfort and ease. La dolce vita. To mix your own – and it’s real easy – add gin, campari and vermouth in equal parts and pour over ice. Put on your shades and enjoy. It’s summer-time and you know it.
